We Collapse, We Build New Cities

Exhibition

We Collapse, We Build New Cities is the latest exhibition by emerging Canberra curator Angus McGrath. McGrath has curated a successful string of exhibitions in Canberra over the last few months, and We Collapse, We Build New Cities at ANCA, an exhibition about the intersection of the human body with buildings, adds another finely tuned string to his bow. For this exhibition McGrath brings to Canberra, some for the first time, a selection of works by outstanding contemporary artists from around Australia working across a range of media including performance, sculpture, poetry, installation, video and print.

Insisting the exhibition is not about architecture, McGrath is instead interested in the way we inhabit spaces, particularly the walls and hidden corners of our contemporary existence. Through their individual practices each artist’s work in the exhibition considers what it means to be human within the architecture and constructs of contemporary society.

Both elegant and violent, it features work by Emma Caskey, Zoë Croggon, Spencer Lai, Sarah McCauley, Liam O’Brien, Madalyn Trewin and JuliaThwaites.
