Oculus director Bob Earl has been a key collaborator on the entire design of Hotel Hotel and the Nishi building within which the hotel sits.

Bob has also worked on much of the landscaping of the NewActon village (the broader precinct that the hotel lives in) as well as the Nishi Gallery building and surrounds, cleverly designed to blur the boundaries between the inside and the outside of the gallery.

So much of Bob’s understanding of what makes a place good has influenced us and shaped what we want to achieve at the hotel. His ideals of public occupation, of public space as public experience, the need for friction for things to be interesting, his obsession with invading buildings from all sides with plants… Suffice to say we love his work hard.
