Notes

Favourite building number 38 - Hôtel du Lac designed by Raffaele Contigiani in the early 1970s in Tunis, Tunisia.

This Brutalist building was one of the first big hotels to be built in Tunisia after it gained independence from France in 1956. It is said to have inspired the treaded 'Sandcrawler' fortresses in Star Wars.

In 2013 it was emptied and scheduled for demolition. It still stands.

Series

Favourite building – 'Favourite Buildings' is an ongoing research project that compiles our favourite buildings out there in the world. There is a definite bent towards brutalist architecture, modernist architecture and vernacular architecture. We're not quite sure where this will go but we're hoarders at heart so we'll keep collecting. One day it will make sense.
