Tall Buildings: Their Problems and Some Ideas is a half-day symposium that investigates new and radical approaches to vertical city-building, co-curated by Stephanie Macdonald from London-based 6a architects and Sofia von Ellrichshausen from Chilean art and architecture studio Pezo von Ellrichshausen.
Thirty people from a range of ages and experiences have been invited to contribute, including architects, artists, designers, scientists, writers, curators, gardeners and more. Drawing on historical and vernacular examples of tall buildings, contributors will take part in a series of actions and conversations that rethink what a tall building could be.
The symposium will be documented and outcomes captured in a digital publication to be distributed here online in the month after Melbourne Design Week. This research will feed Molonglo’s ongoing inquiry into making places that matter and contribute to a public knowledge resource that we hope will be useful to other architects, developers and everyone else beyond.
A collaboration with Melbourne Design Week to bring new project collaborators Stephanie Macdonald from London-based 6a architects and Sofia von Ellrichshausen from Chilean art and architecture studio Pezo von Ellrichshausen to Australia as part Melbourne Design Week. Melbourne Design Week is an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the National Gallery of Victoria, running from 15 to 25 March, 2018.
